History
Marymoor Press was founded in April of 1983, with a small but scrappy
staff of two. Not having a lot of experience under our belts, most of
our lessons were learned at the "School of Hard Knocks". Perseverance,
cost competitiveness, and the fact that we are fast learners, kept us
going for the first few years.
1983 - Marymoor Press was founded. A new start-up business (yes, we still
remember the aches and pains of being a start-up), we built our customer
base from the ground up. We are still servicing some of the first customers
we assisted in 1983.
1985 - Purchased a new Itek 430 camera. As a cutting edge piece of the
equipment in those days, we have been embracing technology and change
from our beginnings. This new piece of equipment allowed us to produce
a higher quality product and also the added benefit of shooting negatives
and halftones in-house.
1987 - Purchased our first 2-color press. Being able to run 2 colors
in 1 pass through the press, cut press time in half and made registration
problems a thing of the past. It was very successful beyond time to delivery,
it helped us take advantage of technology to produce a superior quality
product and reduce customer costs.
1988 - Brought change to Marymoor Press, we moved the business to a space
that was double the size of our existing space allowing our team to align
processes and workflow in a more economical process. This increased our
productivity three-fold by allowing us to re-organize our filing system
and create larger and more efficient workspaces for each phase of our
operation. It is always easier to complete a job when you have the proper
work space and this enabled Marymoor Press to really roll up our sleeves
and finish some very large volume high quality work in a reduced timeframe.
1989 - Purchased a Heidelberg Windmill letterpress, an industry icon
in quality, which brought services such as Numbering, Die-cutting, Scoring
and Perforating in-house. Being able to do these things on-site not only
shortened lead times, it also cuts out a "middle man" and was one of many
cost saving initiatives passed along to our wonderful customer.
1990 - Purchased the Chief 19 offset press allowing us to print larger
sheet sizes and increased our in-house capabilities. Typesetting was also
brought in-house with the purchase of a Compugraphic Photo-Typesetter.
In-house typesetting was a major convenience not only for us, but also
for our customers. It allowed us to give our customers more personalized
service, and faster turn around on corrections or alterations. With quality
at the forefront of our actions, this was a big win for our customer's
ability to obtain the services they wanted at a price they were willing
to pay.
1993 - Demand for our services constantly on the rise, we out grew our
second space and tripled our working space from it's original size. It
also positioned Marymoor Press to be flexible in our job scheduling so
that your last minute "must have it today" emergencies didn't impact previously
scheduled work. To this date we still have last minute changes and orders
and with our flexibility we can meet your deadlines without sacrificing
quality.
1994 - Out with the Compugraphic…..We are keeping pace with the techies.
In with the computer age. We purchased our first computer system designed
specifically for designing print work for our customers. This system along
with associated industry software programs is always being upgraded. Twice
a year we evaluate our existing technology and compare it to potential
quality advances via upgrade and take the appropriate steps to ensure
our customers obtain the latest print technology with each order. Staying
on the cutting edge on edge of technology means you stay at the forefront
of your industry holding especially true in the printing business.
1998 - As Marymoor Press continues to grow we continually obtain those
pieces of equipment necessary to meet our customer's needs. By purchasing
a second, larger and more capable "2 color press" we increased our capacity
and ability to accept more demanding and specialized printing jobs. Our
second "2 color press" enables us to print more demanding jobs with larger
solids (ink coverage) and even closer registration.
2000 - Recently we purchased a Direct-to-Plate Imaging System. Your artwork
and our in-house computer generated artwork is laser imaged onto plate
material eliminating the need for negatives and metal plates. This move
was in response the widely used graphics present in today's society and
our desire to eliminate environmentally harmful waste. This system also
gives our customers superior quality at a greatly reduced cost. We were
one of the first shops in the area to use this system and thoroughly demonstrating
our commitment to our customers, the environment, and our community.
